Students benefit from our world-class arenas and training resources and develop the practical skills needed to work in the industry.

Our tutors and instructors are absolute experts in their field and students also gain additional experience by working alongside staff on the hundreds of regional, national and international events the college regularly hosts.

Students take part in research projects and learn essential theory that they then put into practice.

Bishop Burton also offers its students free BHS training provided by academic instructor.

With all of this combined, it's no wonder our Equine courses have excellent student satisfaction rates. 100% of our Equine Therapy and Rehabilitation degree students were satisfied with their course in the 2020 National Student Survey (NSS).

Those wishing to undertake extra riding hours, or to ride if they're on a non-riding course, may be interested in our riding club. It's open to all students with basic riding skills (which we will assess). These sessions currently cost £15 and are run by experienced qualified instructions.

Riders of a high standard, or those who have the potential to succeed at a high level, are given the opportunity to join Bishop Burton’s prestigious Equine Academy. Academy riders are provided with expert coaching and tuition to enable them to compete at a high level.

The college also has teams competing in the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) league. BUCS riders receive regular training on college horses with one of highly-qualified instructors.

Students are required to provide their own personal protection equipment, including riding hat and yard boots. Financial support may be available.
