Through our industry-experienced staff, excellent employer links and trained careers advisors, you can be sure that you are developing the skills and experience you need to succeed in your career.

Developing employability skills

As well as developing your knowledge and skillset through your course, you will also develop wider skills with our Personal Development Coaches.

They are focused on supporting your success and deliver a range of employability, sustainability and personal development skills sessions to prepare you for your future.

The transferable employability skills you develop whilst at college will help you to develop a positive career.

Completion of an Employability Passport through your academic support tutorial programme will support you in exploring your best next steps. This Passport provides a framework to help you understand more about the key skills that employers are looking for. In order to complete the passport, you will need to reflect on your existing experiences both inside and outside of college and any relevant transferable skills you already have; including the opportunity to draft a CV.

The Employability Passport was externally validated by The Humber Learning Consortium and gained their Kite Mark.

Careers guidance

You will have access to a high-quality careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) through a range of activities and interventions to help you make informed choices.

We will help you to plan and manage your personal progression and career planning. This includes impartial advice and guidance at key transitional times and to access up-to-date information on careers and other issues affecting students’ wellbeing and continuation in education.

Our impartial careers guidance is available through face-to-face appointments, email, online meetings, our student portal iLearn and, frequently, via the delivery of in-class presentations and workshops.

We aim to:

• Ensure all students understand and take advantage of their entitlement to careers guidance and support
• Ensure all students have the opportunity to develop employability or graduate skills and link their learning to industry and the world of work
• Provide a more direct experience of the world of work, a clear view of the labour market and a good understanding of progression routes
• Inspire and inform students about the full range of education, training and employment opportunities available
• Have an emphasis on linking with employers and outside agencies to offer other perspectives
• Raise ambitions and encourage students to overcome barriers
• Provide CEIAG that is impartial and independent and has the best interests of the student at the core of its delivery

Our Careers Coordinator can help you explore the career options available to you, help you to choose the most appropriate course and help you plan what to do once you have completed your studies.

Our tutors will also advise on the career and progression opportunities available in that particular area. They can tell you more about what the course is like, what kind of things you'll learn, how the course is organised, how you’ll be assessed and what previous students have gone on to do.

Our strategy

Our Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) strategy aims to broaden your horizons and empower you to make informed and realistic decisions at key points throughout your student journey. 

We also publish an annual careers programme, which details the activities that will take place during the academic year to prepare you with the skills you need to be work-ready once you leave education. 

Our careers programme and associated policies and statements are reviewed annually.
