Food is a growing industry with a high demand for skilled workers in a variety of roles.

Here at Bishop Burton College, students develop the expertise and practical skills needed for a successful career in this exciting sector.

Students work in the College's dedicated kitchens and benefit from work experience to increase their knowledge and further hone their techniques.

Our qualifications will equip you with skills in a broad range of areas, including butchery, fish filleting, sauces, pastry and bread making. You’ll also gain knowledge of ingredients, food preparation and cooking methods. Alongside these you’ll study health and safety, menu planning, and catering operations - and develop crucial workplace skills. These are hands-on, practical courses, underpinned by theory units to give a broad understanding of cooking and the catering industry. A programme of off-site visits and guest speakers enriches course delivery, whilst work experience will help to prepare you for the exciting and demanding realities of professional cookery.

As a cookery student you’ll be involved with a number of on and off-site events and activities throughout the year - allowing you to show the breadth and depth of your culinary skills, as well as practising the crucial planning, preparation, and management of, catered events. You’ll gain a practical skillset that will prepare you for the next step in your education or career.
