At Bishop Burton, you’ll train in one of the UK’s leading equine centres, with access to industry-standard facilities.

You will have access to:

  • A BHS-approved Equine Centre and examination centre
  • A heated indoor arena, plus five additional indoor and outdoor arenas for training and competition
  • An Equine Therapy and Rehabilitation Centre
  • A Rider Fitness and Performance Suite
  • 110 stables across three specialist yards
  • A six-kilometre off-road hacking track through the college’s rural countryside campus

Qualifications & Professional Background

Holds an MSc in Equine Science, specialising in equine performance and coaching, equine science, and equine business and event management. Currently working towards BHS Performance Centre Manager and BHS Stage 3 Coach qualifications.

Specialist areas include equine nutrition, behaviour and reproduction, with research interests including equine welfare and management practices. Professional memberships include the British Horse Society, the International Society for Equitation Science and Fellowship of Higher Education (FHEA), alongside Associate Registered Nutritionist status.

Greta Cicognani

HE Equine Lecturer

Qualifications & Professional Background

Holds an MSc in Veterinary Physiotherapy and a BSc (Hons) in Equine Therapy and Rehabilitation, completed at Bishop Burton College. Currently working towards BHS Stage 3 Coaching and BHS Stage 4 Care, Ride and Lunge qualifications.

Professional memberships include BHS Gold Membership, the Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP) and the National Association of Veterinary Physiotherapists (NAVP).

Alongside lecturing, works as a veterinary physiotherapist with a particular interest in canine rehabilitation, treating a wide range of neurological and orthopaedic conditions. Research interests include equine health professionals and veterinary physiotherapy.

British Horse Society (BHS) Stage 4 Senior Coach (Eventing)
BHS Stage 5 Coach status, alongside a Foundation Degree in Equine Sports Science and Coaching. 

Specialist areas include coaching, equitation, event management, leadership and BHS assessment preparation.

Having spent more than 17 years at Bishop Burton College, progressing from the Equine Yard team to Further Education instruction and now Higher Education lecturing, she brings significant practical and industry experience.

Programme leader for the BSc (Hons) Equine Business Management degree

Qualifications & Professional Background

Holds an MA in Education and Senior Fellowship of Advance HE (SFHEA), with undergraduate and PGCE qualifications completed at Bishop Burton College. Research interests include teacher wellbeing and education, with previous research focusing on teacher stress during the COVID-19 period.

Alongside teaching, contributes to education and professional practice as a governor for a secondary school and regularly presents at National Association of Veterinary Physiotherapists (NAVP) mentorship events.

My journey at Bishop Burton College began with Level 3 Equine Management before progressing through Higher Education to complete a BSc (Hons) Equine Sports Science and Coaching degree. Alongside my studies, I achieved my BHS Stage 3 Complete Coach qualification, helping me progress into teaching and coaching roles. I now work across the commercial and FE academic teams while continuing my professional development through a PGCE and further BHS qualifications.
