Life Skills

We know that everyone is different. That's why University Centre Bishop Burton (UCBB) has a dedicated Life Skills team to help you to unlock your full potential.

It’s all about YOU at UCBB.

Our Life Skills team will help you to achieve your academic, career and personal life goals.

Life Coaching

Our highly qualified team of Life Coaches work with students to build confidence, resilience and clarity. Through personalised, strengths‑based support, we help you develop the skills you need to thrive academically, professionally and personally.

  • Emotional and behavioural development

We help you understand the personal barriers that may be holding you back — from confidence challenges to unhelpful thinking patterns. Through reflective conversations and practical strategies, we support you to build self‑awareness, emotional regulation and a mindset that enables you to reach your full potential.

  • Mentoring and coaching programmes

Our one‑to‑one coaching programmes are tailored to your individual goals. Whether you’re navigating academic pressures, planning your next steps, or working through a specific challenge, we offer structured, personalised support that helps you move forward with clarity and purpose.

  • Social engagement and interpersonal skills

We provide career‑focused coaching designed to help you develop the interpersonal and professional skills needed to succeed in the workplace. From communication and teamwork to confidence in professional settings, we help you become industry‑ready and able to engage meaningfully with others.

  • Health, wellbeing and resilience

We take a holistic approach to wellbeing, supporting you to build healthy habits, manage stress, and develop resilience. Our coaching explores physical and mental wellbeing, life balance, and the everyday skills that help you maintain a grounded, healthy lifestyle.

Professional and employability skills

At UCBB, we work closely with employers to understand the skills, behaviors and attributes they look for in today’s graduates. Through our Life Skills programme, you’ll develop the professional, digital, and interpersonal skills needed to thrive in the workplace and stand out in a competitive job market.

You'll build confidence in areas including:

  • Professional communication and workplace etiquette
  • Effective networking and relationship-building
  • Email, telephone and virtual meeting skills
  • Digital collaboration using platforms such as Microsoft Teams
  • Time management, organisation and personal effectiveness
  • Professionalism, adaptability and workplace confidence
  • Our goal is to help you become a career-ready graduate, equipped with the skills employer's value

The Life Skills team offers flexible support both on campus and online through email, telephone and video appointments, ensuring all students, including distance learners, can access guidance and development opportunities wherever they are.
