The Course

This is practical training and assessment in the skills needed to administer different types of veterinary medicine to animals (oral, topical and injectables).

The assessment includes storing and transporting of medicines, disposing of unwanted supplies, recognition of signs of ill health and the relevant records that are kept.

Certificates are endorsed according to the species of animal for which the candidate is assessed including farm and domestic animals.

Upon successful completion of this course candidates will receive an NPTC Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Veterinary Medicine. This qualification is issued for life, however NPTC recommend that refresher training is carried out every three to four years.

As well as being held at the college, this course can be delivered on your own site, using your own equipment ensuring your employees are trained in the environment they are most familiar with and at a time that best suits you.

  • What You Study

    This qualification teaches the candidates to:

    • Comply with current, relevant health and safety legislation
    • Follow animal health plan
    • Administer a range of veterinary medicine types, safely and humanely
    • Store and transport veterinary medicines correctly
    • Maintain health of user, public and animals
    • Dispose of unwanted veterinary medicines safely
    • Record the use of veterinary medicines
    • Prevent the unnecessary pain and unnecessary distress to the animals
    • Identify signs of health and ill-health in animals.
  • Entry Requirements

    The minimum age for a candidate taking this course is 16.

  • Duration

    Two days, Monday - Friday, 9am - 4pm.

    • NPTC Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides – Ground Crop Sprayer PA2
    • NPTC Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Pesticides – Slug Pellet PA4.
