Vocational Exams and Assessment Cancellation – Statement from Principal & CEO
Bishop Burton College is running scheduled BTEC exams today, in line with guidance from the Department for Education, rather than cancel at very short notice.
Full safety measures have been put in place to enable students to take exams in a secure environment and attendance has very much been down to individual choice.
However, in light of the fact that many people do not feel comfortable about coming into the College for their exams during a National Lockdown, we have taken the decision to cancel all BTEC and City & Guilds Functional Skills exams and assessments from tomorrow, Thursday 7th January.
We appreciate that this must be a very difficult time for you. We are working closely with our Awarding Bodies to ensure that no student is disadvantaged.
Pearson, the Awarding body for BTECs has provided the following information:
- We have agreed the following with Ofqual and the DfE to ensure that no learner is disadvantaged.
- We will award a grade for any learner who is unable to take their exams and has enough evidence to receive a certificate that they need for progression.
- Learners unable to take their assessment this January may be able to take their assessment at a later date. If that is not possible, we will put in place arrangements to ensure you are not disadvantaged.
- We are working closely with the DfE and Ofqual on all of this and we will share more detail with you in the coming days.
We hope that this update provides you with some reassurance that you will not be disadvantaged, whether you have taken an exam or not. We will provide more information as soon as it is available.
End point assessments for Apprenticeships are not affected by this statement. Please contact your tutor with any queries.
