"I joined Bishop Burton College in 2021, studying Level Three Floristry. I used to be a chef, working for people like Marco Pierre White, Jamie Oliver and Gino D’Acampo, but after lockdown I decided I didn’t want to go back. I’ve always had a love for flowers so I thought I’d put my passion and love for them into practice. After looking up courses, I knew Bishop Burton was the place for me.

Life as a student was brilliant. It was scary at first as an older student who hadn’t been in education for a long time, however these emotions and feelings didn’t last long. My tutors were fantastic and I felt comfortable and at ease straightaway.

The best thing about being at Bishop Burton was definitely the course. It was hands-on, we got to learn and use flowers from day one which was fantastic. The course is well tailored to learning the basics in order to advance our skills throughout the course. My time at college benefited me massively. We went on trips to wholesales and took part in work experience which was really useful. I started my small business as soon as I left the course. I had a workshop built in my garden, opened accounts with wholesalers and had a business plan in pace from the course. The skills and knowledge I learnt led me to outgrow my workshop quickly and into a stall unit in Trinity Market in Hull."
