Liam Gale – HNC Sport and Exercise Science (Coaching Science)

“At UCBB you get experience of what it might be like in a real-world coaching environment. I feel like I have learned and developed so much, thanks to the hands-on modules and assessments. It’s been great observing the Lincoln City FC Shadow Scholarship Squad coaches and leading sessions working directly with players.”

HNC Sport and Exercise Science (Coaching Science) student Liam loves the welcoming environment at UCBB’s Riseholme College campus.

Having previously studied a Level 3 BTEC in Sport at Riseholme College, he chose to progress onto the next phase of his academic career with UCBB and remain at the Riseholme College campus. The way in which the HNC programme is taught really appealed to him and he feels comfortable and at home on the campus, enjoying the rural location, which has wide open spaces and state-of-the-art facilities.

On the HNC programme, the classroom often takes the form of a 3G pitch, sports hall or gym, providing an environment that complements his preferred style of learning. Liam really enjoys how the methods of teaching and assessment on the HNC mimic real world coaching sessions, so the practical approaches applied at UCBB suit him very well. As Liam intends to pursue coaching as a career in the future, this is an element of the course he finds incredibly rewarding.

The HNC programme has provided Liam with the expertise and confidence to take advantage of opportunities outside of university, to work with local teams and develop filming and media skills from a coaching perspective. This exposure has further broadened his experience, which will prove invaluable after graduation. In addition to gaining theoretical knowledge, he feels the course has helped him to grow and mature, even outside of sport. He credits the unique UCBB atmosphere for this, describing his peers as welcoming and helpful. Liam also finds the teaching staff very supportive - always available to not only to help with assignments and research work, but also assist in resolving any issues that may arise.

Liam wants a career within the sport and coaching industry and feels confident that his HNC will help him to progress within the sector thanks to big emphasis on hands-on practical work that he has been able to apply outside of his course, as a well-equipped and confident sports and exercise professional.
