Are you looking to develop an active equestrian career that includes riding, teaching, equine science and therapy? This course will provide you with practical applied experience for all units. Whilst studying the Level 3 in Equine Management you will have the opportunity to tailor units to your particular area of interest, with pathways focusing on rehabilitation and therapy or equitation and coaching. As an equine student at Bishop Burton, you will have the opportunity to complete additional qualifications in BHS Stage 1/2. In combining your theoretical knowledge with invaluable practical skills, this specialist qualification will prepare you for a successful career in the equine industry beyond your College education. You will be encouraged to take the British Horse Society (BHS) exams and Young Equestrian Leaders Awards (YELA) alongside the main course (subject to fees).

Four GCSEs at grade 4 or equivalent, including English, Maths and Science (preferably Biology) or a relevant Level 2/First Diploma. You will also require relevant practical experience, including being able to demonstrate a suitable level of riding. We also have a maximum weight limit of 13 stone.

You will normally be in college four days per week, plus one day in work placement.

You will need to undertake 150 hours of external work placement.
Work will be assessed using a variety of written assignments, practical assessments and formally externally marked exams. GCSE/Functional Skills exams in English and Maths will be compulsory if these have not been achieved at grade 4 when you start the course. Upon completion of this course, you will be graded pass, merit, distinction or distinction*.
  • Folder with dividers to organise your work and assignments.
  • Stationery including notepad for use in class, pens and pencils.
  • Riding hat and hairnets. Hats must be at current British Standards with logo (PASO15, VG1, ASTM F1163 or SNELL 2001). Hats solely with BSEN 1384 will not be accepted.
  • Dark coloured riding gloves, jodhpurs and waterproof coat.
  • College-branded polo shirts and sweatshirts.
  • Yard boots or wellington boots.
  • A change of footwear for the classroom.
  • For riding units, body protectors can be used at your discretion and should conform to current safety standards (BETA Level 3 2018 with blue tag) (air jackets are not permitted), long riding boots or short boots with chaps and a schooling/jumping whip. Body protectors must be used for jumping units on year 2 of the course.
Following the completion of this course, you will be eligible to progress to study at degree-level and/or to go straight into employment.
Possible career paths include working as a competition rider, instructor, stud yard assistant, sales representative, lecturer or groom.
