This year has been a year like no other, and today for Colleges Week 2020 we are focusing on all the amazing work the college has been doing to help support people and support our communities. Our students and staff have been working hard during lockdown and beyond in a number of ways. From opening new businesses to distributing vital PPE, there are so many examples of positive news and actions during this challenging time for us all.

During the height of lockdown our Fashion degree lecturers, Phionna and Alison volunteered their own time each week to make scrubs for hardworking nhs.uk teams. The finished scrubs were distributed to For the Love Of Scrubs: Hornsea, Hull & Surrounding Areas and sent exactly where they were needed throughout the area.  Bill Meredith, our Principal at the college personally helped with the distribution of donated PPE items to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Partnership Team.

This year despite the challenges to the economy and stories in the media of people being made redundant, our Floristry graduate Hannah Wilson has successfully launched her brand-new business Flowerbee Florist Design Studio in Barton. Opening her doors earlier this month, Hannah is keen to get Bishop Burton students involved, and will be utilising the shop and studio to showcase students designs and also offer work experience placements. Great job Hannah in bringing happiness to her community and supporting students into the future.
