The course

The BA Floristry Design Top Up is designed for students who have successfully completed the Foundation Degree in Floristry or an appropriate level 5 qualification in floristry and wish to top up to gain an honours degree award.

The programme provides you with a balanced approach to design theory, research, practical application, analysis and evaluation in floristry, to further enhance your employability and career development within the floristry industry.

The programme will introduce relevant live projects, commercial and client-focused activity through a final exhibition of students' work and a design installation. These will encourage you to explore and experiment with design techniques and materials outside the context in which you first studied, proposing new and exciting ways to approach floristry design.

It is intended that this approach will allow you to follow your own creative direction whilst under the supervision of dedicated specialist tutors. The content is specifically intended to meet the exacting and demanding requirements of the floristry event industry and to deliver the highest levels of design innovation and enterprise demanded.

PLEASE NOTE: This programme is currently undergoing a refresh with the University of Hull to ensure you get the best experience and opportunity to achieve as an employment-ready graduate. The learning outcomes, modules, the teaching and learning strategy, contact hours and assessment strategies may change. Full details of the newly refreshed programme will be available later in the year and will be communicated to all applicants at the earliest opportunity.

If your first language is not English, or a Tier 4 student visa to study is required and GCSE grade C/4 English or equivalent is not held, English language proficiency level such as International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 6.0 overall (with a minimum 5.5 in each skill) will need evidencing.

This programme is delivered with a variety of learning and teaching approaches to include all students' learning styles and preferences.

For all modules, theory lectures will deliver the core content and provide you with underpinning knowledge. To complement the theory lectures, you will have practical demonstration sessions that are used to reinforce concepts delivered theoretically.

Study at this level demonstrates increasing sophistication of design thinking and critical analysis within the design process. There is an expectation for considerable selfdirection and independence particularly within the Creative Research Project and Final Exhibition.

Teaching will take place at our Bishop Burton campus in East Yorkshire, UK.

For each 20 credit module you will receive approximately 54 hours of class/contact time with the tutor. You are also expected to carry out a significant amount of private study in addition to contact time (146 hours per module).

You can expect to receive your timetable during induction week.

Relevant extra-curricular activity and/or work experience is encouraged to enhance your learning.
The assessment methods used will require you to use a range of approaches demonstrating knowledge and skills across a range of contexts. By adopting a wider range of assessment methods, it will promote a more inclusive approach with consideration to individual learning styles, which can also help support some students who may be at a disadvantage by the extensive use of a particular assessment method. Assessment includes written assignments, presentations, practical work, online portfolio and coursework. There are no formal examinations. Opportunities for feedback on assessments are available prior to the final submission to support your development and achievement.
