Student Blog: Amelia - T Level in Childcare

27 Feb 2021 | College

My name is Amelia, and I am a Bishop Burton student on the T Level in Childcare. I chose this course as I have always had an interest in working in this sector and I knew this would open a lot of opportunities for me. The course also provides a wide range of job roles and qualifications to get into those jobs. Including the placement element, it allows hands on learning and gives you a perspective on how the early years provision is run day-to-day.

I chose Bishop Burton College as I had heard a lot of great things from family members and friends. I knew childcare was something I would love to do, and the open day that I attended really gave me a good view of what the college/course would bring.

College is very different from school, it allows for independent working, first-hand experience and you also get a sense of adulthood by being treated like a professional working adult. You also have a group of students who have the same interests as you, sharing new information, experiences and opinions. College has given me the responsibility to lead my own learning, as well as having the support from the amazing staff and students on this course.

I have goals towards being a midwife or perhaps a teaching assistant in a nursery, I am still unsure, but this course allows me to really narrow it down and understand the responsibilities in both sectors. This has been a passion of mine for so long and I am so glad I am able to take part in such a fantastic course.

My favourite part about Bishop Burton has to be how wonderful the facilities are. The campus is surrounded by beautiful scenery which makes it super welcoming and a chilled learning environment. The nursery in the childcare building is also my favourite as you really get to understand what to expect in a nursery setting.

Altogether I believe that this course can provide you with everything you will need for going into a childcare setting and will give you the support to challenge yourself! I have gained so much confidence and knowledge coming to Bishop Burton and I can’t wait to have new experiences in the future! I have met so many lovely people here that have been so positive and approachable, including the course leaders. I hope this has given a clear insight into the college and T level in Childcare!
