Specialist career pathways

At college level students can study the BTEC Sport qualification to gain broad knowledge and skills about the Sport sector. In addition to this, students will have bespoke Employability Sessions that focus on developing specialist chosen career pathways. Career pathway options are: Coaching & Teaching, Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation and Fitness Industries.

Each career pathway option will result in additional, fully funded industry recognised specialist qualifications to give students a head-start in their careers. This is a unique offer only available at Bishop Burton.

Special industry experts

Sport courses at Bishop Burton are delivered by both tutors and industry experts and include our unique employability sessions. Industry partners who work with our students include the FA (Football Association), RFU (Rugby Football Union), Active IQ, 1st4Sport, Hull City, Tigers Trust, Hull FC, Les Mills fitness industries and the NHS. Not only does this give students current and directly relevant industry experience, but it opens up opportunities to network within the sector to support future careers.

Ready for work

As with most college courses, students who study Sport at Bishop Burton will complete work experience placements as part of their course. But we offer more! A limited number of Bishop Burton Sport students will have the opportunity to complete a ‘ready for work’, enhanced work experience programme, one day a week alongside their studies. Bishop Burton has partnership links with more than 300 sport and fitness organisations locally, regionally, nationally and even worldwide, giving students the best possible opportunities within the sector.

Professionally accredited Sport and Exercise Therapy degree

New for September 2022, University Centre Bishop Burton has launched a BSc Hons Degree in Sport and Exercise Therapy & Rehabilitation, which is validated by University of Lincoln and accredited by The Society of Sports Therapists. This new programme gives students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience as well as theory to gain a real understanding of sporting injuries, their causes and their treatments. The accreditation from The Society of Sports Therapists means that up on completion, graduates will have gained the relevant skills to ensure they are eligible to practice, straight away. The state-of-the art new Sports Therapy and Exercise Science lab, along with access to elite sporting academies at Bishop Burton gives students the ideal platform to succeed in this field of Sport.
