Student Blog: Holly - BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care

28 Feb 2021 | College

My name is Holly Holdsworth and I study on the Level 3 Health and Social Care course at Bishop Burton College. I chose this course at Bishop Burton as it offers a wide range of opportunities which allows you to progress to hundreds of careers in the Health and Social Care industry.

If you’re wanting to work in a range of health and social settings, then this course really is perfect for you!

This course offers placement and volunteering opportunities with organisations such as the NHS, which is fantastic to be able to get experience and stand out from the crowd. You can gain experience in areas such as paediatrics, supporting adult nursing, orthopaedics, mental health….the list is endless! By choosing this course, you are focusing only on health and social care, which I have found much less stressful. Placement and the volunteering opportunities gives you a step up when you are applying to universities, and gives you so many ideas on which path you would like to take.

I chose Bishop Burton as it has a great reputation and also has great links with the NHS and other organisations in the health and social care industry.

I have two favourite parts to the course. The first is the access it gives you to the health industry, meeting lots of industry professionals and getting to complete work experience and volunteering in the sector as well. The second is that the course is mainly assignment based with one or two exams which is ideal if you’re not too keen on exams like me, that was one of the main reasons I chose this course.

Being in college 3 days a week gives you time to complete assignments and have a free weekend, which is more ideal than being in college 5 days a week. You get the right amount of time being in class and working hard and also having some free time to relax with the friends which you make at the college.

My teachers are all previous health professionals so they have had the experience in the health and social care sector and are able to give you insight in the career. They pass on some unbelievable knowledge which really helps us gain additional information and helps us stand out from other health and social care students.

This course is perfect for you if you are motivated to have a future career in the health and social care sector.

Applications to start this September are open! Check out our BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care course today.
