Student Blog: Chloe - FdSc Agriculture

26 Feb 2021 | University Centre

Why did you choose this course?

Coming from a farming background I chose to study FdSc Agriculture to broaden and expand my knowledge of the sector, with the hope of developing skills for good employment opportunities.

Why did you choose this college?

I had previously studied a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business at Bishop Burton and really enjoyed the atmosphere on campus which was my main reason for returning.

How is college different from school?

Bishop Burton is completely different from being at school. I didn’t have a very enjoyable experience throughout my time at secondary school, but I was so glad when everyone at Bishop was a lot more friendly and welcoming.

What is your favourite part of the course?

My favourite part of the course is the livestock science side. I am particularly interested in farm animal genetics and breeding, so these are my favourite lectures!

Where do you hope this course will lead?

After completing FdSc Agriculture I am hoping to do the top-up in Bio veterinary science.

Is there anything you wish you knew before you came?

I wish I had known that the Higher Education students have the access to the University Centre. I thought we would be in the main buildings with the college students.

What facilities do you like the most and why?

Although not being able to use them recently due to Covid-19, my favourite facilities are the labs and the farm as it allows me to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations.

What is your favourite thing about being on campus?

My favourite thing about being on campus is the social aspect. It’s great to come in every week and catch up with everyone.

The teaching has been very well adapted onto teams during the Covid-19 pandemic.
