How Bishop Burton College is at the centre of growing and supporting individual sectors

20 Oct 2020 | College

Here at Bishop Burton and College we are really proud to part of the Yorkshire and Humber Institute of Technology consortium of colleges. This exciting partnership first announced in April 2019, aims to promote collaboration between employers and college and university level providers, to increase higher level technical skills for employers, with a focus on STEM such as engineering and digital. The Yorkshire & Humber Institute of Technology brings capital investment of circa £10million into the region for partners to invest in industry leading equipment and provide higher level technical training. This massive training boost will enhance employment opportunities and ensure highly qualified employees for the regions’ employers.

At Bishop Burton £1.7 million has been invested by the Yorkshire and Humber IoT to develop a brand-new centre with facilities and learning environments that are dedicated to the most forward-looking agricultural technologies. Equipment includes satellite technology that is capable of the remote sensor of field factors such as crop density, yield, disease and pests. Our programmes offer a range of high-level technical qualifications, focusing on precision farming systems which optimise yield and minimise environmental impact. Precision farming technologies can transform food production techniques whilst reducing emissions, pollution, waste and soil erosion.
