Bishop Burton College has become the English Colleges Premier League (ECFA) champions for the third time. The college won the ECFA Premier League for the first time in 2018/19 and has now added back-to-back league titles in the last two years, remaining unbeaten throughout both league campaigns.
As a result of winning the league, the team entered a last-16 national play-off along with the other best colleges in the country. The team drew York College at home and after a convincing victory will now progress into the national quarter final which will be played on the 17th April.
This success comes on the back of the team becoming Under-18 National Champions last season, winning the English Schools Football Association (ESFA) Super League Cup.
Director of Football James Bennett said he is incredibly proud of the players and is delighted with the team’s recent successes.
He said, “To win the ECFA Premier League is a great achievement, but to do it two years in a row is a testament to the players attitude and application on a daily basis. To also remain unbeaten across two seasons shows the players’ mental strength to show that level of consistency.
We are now consistently operating amongst the top 8 colleges in the country in terms of performance, and it’s great for the college to be getting that national recognition.”
The team also had success on an individual level this year, with two members of the team being selected to represent the England Colleges National Team. Adam Stockhill and Jacob Hill, both second-year sport students at the college, were part of the England team that got to the final of an international tournament in Italy in February.
