The College has been given commended status in the RCU Award for Support for Students 2020/21. The finalists will be announced during AoC FE Summit taking place on the 17 and 18 November.
The annual Beacon Awards celebrates the best and most innovative practices amongst UK further education colleges. The awards programme looks to demonstrate and showcase the far-reaching work that colleges do for their students, and how this reaches out into communities. 2020 has been a year with more challenges than usual. Working to ensure colleges deliver the same high standard of support and teaching during a global pandemic has put additional pressure on support services and teaching staff. This makes this year's awards even more important as they celebrate the fantastic achievements colleges have made in such unprecedented times.
Bishop Burton, also rated in the top 5% of colleges nationally by the Department of Education, welcomes the commended status for Support for Students. Staff across the College (including student support services, hospitality, teaching staff and estates) have worked hard to make sure the campus is a safe and supportive environment. Not only through the recent turbulent times, but ensuring that the college remains progressive and adapts to the needs of their students. More recently this has been vital to enable teaching provision and to ensure that facilities are still available in the safest way to our students, without compromising on their support and learning experience.
Daniel Brett, Assistant Principal at Bishop Burton College, warmly congratulated colleagues. He said:
“We have spent a great deal of time and effort on this particular area of work over the past 12 to 18 months, in recognition that the needs of our students have and continue to change, especially throughout a period as unique as the one we find ourselves in at the moment.
“So, with that in mind, I could not be more pleased that the College has received this acknowledgment. A sincere congratulations to all the staff who continue to play their part to support our students.”
We will be excitedly watching the final results at the AoC FE Summit next week and wish all the colleges the best of luck!
