Ann Paling joins British Equestrian board as the nominated member for British Eventing

The Board of Directors of British Equestrian (BEF) has named Ann Paling as the new British Eventing nominated board member. Ann brings a wealth of experience from both the equestrian and education sectors, strengthening the board’s commitment to inclusion and a sustainable future for equestrian sport.

Ann began her career in the equestrian sector at the age of 16, gaining her British Horse Society qualifications to develop as a coach. She went on to teach at Bishop Burton College, in East Yorkshire, where she helped to develop the higher education equine courses. Now Director of Faculty Land-Based at the college, Ann’s work has focused on developing future equestrian professionals and supporting workforce growth within the sector. The creation of safe, inclusive and professional cultures has been central to her career.

As a key member of the Bishop Burton team, Ann has been closely involved in the organisation and delivery of national and international equine events, which have deepened her understanding of governance, safeguarding, participant welfare and collaboration, alongside a true passion for eventing.

A commitment to encouraging a welcoming and vibrant equestrian sector is reflected Ann’s work and perfectly aligns with the goals of British Equestrian’s 2025-2030 strategy making her a great ally on the Board.

Upon her appointment to the British Equestrian Board, Ann said; “I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to the wider equestrian world through membership of the BEF board. I look forward to supporting the delivery of the BEF strategy which I believe to be relevant , modern and ambitious. Alongside my responsibilities to the BEF, I hope to be a strong advocate on behalf of British Eventing with a particular focus on securing a sustainable future for this extraordinary sport. I’m determined to meet as many stakeholders as possible this year and aim to provide effective input to the Board on behalf of all involved.”

Rosie Williams, Chief Executive at British Eventing, who put Ann forward, added; “We are really pleased that Ann is joining the BEF Board and I am sure she will be a great champion for the eventing community.”

In addition to her professional role, Ann serves as a Magistrate, a position that demands sensitivity, ethical judgment and impartiality – qualities ideally suited to her new role on the BEF Board.
