Bishop Burton College are incredibly proud to have been a part of the first wave of colleges and universities, who are changing the educational landscape for higher level technical skills with the Institutes of Technology (IoTs).
This month marks three years since the very first IoTs were announced and to mark the occasion a social media moment has been created for all IoTs to come together to celebrate what we do and what we offer.
If you’re a follower of the College’s social media you will have noticed that throughout this week we have been posting about the exciting opportunities the IoT presents. Thanks to a £1.7m investment in our purpose-built Centre for Precision Agriculture and cutting-edge technology, equipment and robotics, the college works with employers and universities to future-proof agriculture and support the future careers of students.
All IoTs across the country have been posting simultaneously throughout this week, to collectively ‘drum-up noise’ and shout about the fantastic work and impact the IoTs are having on a national scale. From our perspective it’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the positive impact the college is having on upskilling and equipping our students with technical skills to improve productivity, reduce skills gaps and support growth within the agriculture sector.
We offer new and bespoke higher-level qualifications and free short courses that are designed to support students and prepare them for the increased prevalence of technology within agriculture and ready the next generation of farmers to support a skills gap within the sector. Our curriculum has been developed to address these challenges and there is provision across all career phases to introduce, upskill and support.
Only last week the college participated in an exciting photoshoot, led by benchmarking organisation Gatsby, that is happening across a number of IoTs to showcase them in action. Our teaching staff and students demonstrated some of the robotics and equipment including our Mzuri drill, Trimble Greenseeker and Palintest soil testing kit that are used across the college farm, enabling students to utilise innovative technology in real-life situations, preparing them for the inevitable continuous introduction of new technologies and familiarising them with the concepts of precision agriculture throughout their time at the college.
