Harry Gunn Maclean

Harry joined us on a Level 3 Sport course before progressing onto higher education, studying our BSc Sports and Exercise Science

'I was at College for my Level 3 qualification which was a really nice pathway to lead through to HE whilst allowing me to remain in that close-knit environment where the education is a lot more one-to-one and there is a lot more contact time, this really appealed to me.

I enjoyed the smaller groups and it’s a lot easier to have contact with the lecturers. Although I am local to Bishop Burton I ended up living on campus for university which I really enjoyed. The whole journey on the dissertation showcase was hard, but to come out of the other side of that and to have done well for myself was a huge achievement. I chose to do my dissertation on coaching, analysing player’s performance and offering feedback. I am hoping to progress into coaching and teaching in the future. Currently I am doing a Level 3 Award in Education and Teaching at Bishop Burton College and would like to continue teaching/ Rugby coaching, doing something practical that allows me to share the knowledge that I have learnt and am still learning now.

I’m largely interested in Rugby and all the different learning and coaching styles that you get taught in the module, I am looking forward to taking those on and learning new parts. I work at the College as a graduate coach with the rugby team, alongside my studies. It’s a one-year role but I am hopeful something will come of that, or I’ll explore what other options are out there with the skills that I have learnt.'
