The Course

This qualification has been developed in consultation with employers and professional bodies. It identifies knowledge, understanding and technical skills that employers will need from you entering the countryside and environmental sector in the coming years.

There are three main forms of assessment to be aware of: external, internal and synoptic.

Work experience forms a large part of the study programme with learners needing to complete over 300 hours off-site work experience. This has to be undertaken in an area related area to your main qualification and learners are expected to secure this prior to commencing the course if possible.

    • Work experience
    • Maths and / or English (if not achieved at grade 4).
  • Entry Requirements

    Four GCSEs at grade 4 or C or equivalent, preferably including English and Maths, or a relevant BTEC Level 2 / First Diploma.

  • Pathways

    A range of pathways are available, determined by your qualifications.

    • Extended Certificate (one year)
    • Foundation Diploma (one year)
    • Diploma (two years)
    • Extended Diploma (two years).
  • Progression

    On completion of this qualification, you will have obtained the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress on to a higher level supervisory or management qualifications, e.g.

    • FdSc Wildlife and Conservation Management
    • FdSc Ecology and Environmental Management.
  • Careers

    Work as a countryside ranger, warden, conservation advisor, community manager, project development officer, conservation scientist and many more.
