The course

Maths and English skills are essential for gaining employment, that all-important promotion or going onto higher education. It is now very commonplace for employers to ask for these qualifications either GCSE Grade 4 or above or the equivalent of a Pass grade at Level 2 Functional Skills.

We have designed Level 2 Functional Skills courses to develop your skills in a practical and accessible way to support your future development. These courses are delivered at times that fit around existing work commitments for a short 12 week period, meaning you can gain the essential qualifications whilst continuing to work.

Functional Skills Mathematics help students develop a knowledge and understanding of problem-solving, reasoning, applying maths in context and the functional elements of Mathematics.

This is an online course but you will be required to come onto campus to complete your end of the course assessments.

The course will start on September 2023.

Course Information

To secure your place on the Maths Functional Skills you will need to attend an informal interview with a member of the Maths team who will also do an initial assessment to test the skills you already have.

The 12 week courses will run on Monday evenings, 5:30pm - 8:30pm starting from September 2023. Sessions will last 3 hours and are available online so you can access the course from home, you will need to come in for assessments at the end of the course. Please note that courses only run during term times.

A formal assessment with exam papers provided by the exam board will be completed at the end of each course.
