Rugby League

16+ and Degree

Bishop Burton is the leading rugby league college in the UK. We run men’s academies at degree level (Senior Academy) and at 16+ (Elite Academy). We are also the home of the City of Hull U19 Academy. Alongside this, Bishop Burton is one of 12 RFL Accredited Category Three academies.

The Elite Academy is in the RFL College Elite League. This is the highest standard of college rugby league in the country and we were Yorkshire and National Cup champions in 2014-15. Our Senior Academy plays in the British University and Colleges Sport leagues. You can join the academy in the 16+ group and progress through to degree, or if you have already completed College, or about to complete, you can join the Senior Academy.

Entry Criteria

Prospective academy players must have applied for a course at Bishop Burton to be eligible for selection. Academic entry requirements are available in individual course guides. Sporting selection is undertaken through a pre-season trial. Elite squad players will have had regional/county honours, scholarship experience or have been playing at a high standard of youth rugby league. Senior academy players will have been playing at a high level of college rugby league - equivalent to the college’s own Elite Academy - had a contract at a professional club or been playing adult rugby league to at least Conference standard.

Our Programme

Players in the academy system at Bishop Burton get a high quality programme balanced with their academic commitments. Players receive technical and tactical field sessions, strength and conditioning, video analysis, team meetings and various additional sessions to improve their knowledge and performance in the game.
