The £2million STEM and Humber Energy Centre building provides students with state-of-the-art teaching resources including virtual simulators and precision farming technology.
It enables the college to teach students skills that are highly sought after in the local economy.
The laboratories are updated on an annual basis to ensure they are equipped with the latest facilities and equipment, this includes:
- Five teaching labs
- State-of-the-art IT facilities, including digital imaging through microscopes
- Specialist microscopy room, including phase contrast, fluorescence and inverted microscopes
- Specialist nutritional analysis lab, including bomb calorimeter, kjeldahl protein analyser, fat extraction equipment, fibrebag systems and moisture analysers
- Atomic absorption spectrophotometer to analyse trace elements
- FTIR to analyse molecular structure
- ELISA plate reader, PCR and electrophoresis equipment for protein analysis and DNA fingerprinting
- Histology equipment for the preparation and staining of animal tissue microscope slides
- Microbiology/tissue culture clean room
- Haematology equipment including VetTest and Catalyst DX blood analysers
- Thermal imaging cameras
- Forensic science equipment to allow collection of fingerprints, hair, blood, tool marks, bones and DNA analysis
- A scene of crime room with scenarios for investigation
- Equipment for agricultural research projects including ammonia monitoring, particle meters, grain moisture meters, pest traps and grow lights
- Sports fitness testing equipment including jump mats, timing systems, lactate analysers and body composition
- Equine rein tension device
- Quintic gait analysis
- Ecological monitoring equipment including bat detectors, insect traps and freshwater invert collection kit
