Bishop Burton College is seeking the views of businesses spanning many different sectors as part of a major review of its curriculum.
The college is hosting ‘Curriculum Transformation: Delivering Education and Skills for the Next Generation’ at its campus, near Beverley, next month.
Businesses from industries including agriculture, animal care, engineering, sport, construction, childcare and many more are all being invited to attend and discuss the vital skills and knowledge they believe students will need to have for successful careers in the region.
The breakfast event will also include a presentation from the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), addressing the current skills gap.
Bill Meredith, Chief Executive and Principal of Bishop Burton College, said: “We have excellent links with businesses in the area, so it makes perfect sense to tap into their knowledge and views.
“Bishop Burton is proud of the excellent success rates we have for our students, but we don’t want to stand still. We want to ensure our students have the very best opportunity to launch successful careers when they progress from college.
“The knock-on effect of this is that it will be a huge boost for the region to have highly skilled young adults entering a range of different professions that are crucial for the local economy.”
Bishop Burton delivers further education college programmes, as well as degrees from its dedicated University Centre. It specialises in agriculture, animal management, engineering, equine and sport but also delivers a range of courses in different subject areas.
The curriculum transformation event, which takes place on Thursday, 14th November and commences with a breakfast buffet, will give attendees the opportunity to express their view in group sessions. Campus tours will be available at the end of the event, which is expected to close around 10am.
Invitations have been sent to a range of businesses, but any that have not been contacted that would like to take part are asked to email Rick Lyon at firstname.lastname@example.org.
