The Bishop Burton Equine Academy

The Bishop Burton Equine Academy provides continued support and development of proven high calibre riders or those with future potential to succeed to a high level.

The Academy is open to both Further and Higher education students enrolled on a course at Bishop Burton College. Selected academy students will receive a highly supportive and structured training programme whilst studying for an academic qualification.

The academy aims to:

  • Offer high quality relevant Further Education / Higher Education academic provision for continued education and career development
  • Provide top class sport specific coaching and personnel support for a variety of equestrian disciplines
  • Develop individual preparation, training & competition strategies in order to maximise performance.

Equine Academy Development Squad

The development squad is suited towards students who show the potential and enthusiasm to develop in their discipline and show the determination to excel, however would benefit from the training and coaching of the academy staff for a period before they are at the level of competition required for the full equine academy status.

Equine Academy Students

Each Equine Academy student will receive:

  • Regular training sessions with the Academy Coach
  • Training sessions with Event Rider Ginny Turnbull.
  • Competition schedule assistance and planning
  • Discounted DIY stabling for the Equine Academy students horse
  • Specialist support from the Bishop Burton team, which includes a rider fitness coach.
  • Therapy sessions available for horses in the Equine Therapy Centre with reduced prices for treatment
  • Option to join the Bishop Burton Riding Club.

Development Squad Students

Each Equine Academy Development Squad student will receive:

  • Weekly training sessions with the training Academy Coach
  • Training sessions with Event Rider Ginny Turnbull.
  • Competition schedule assistance and planning
  • Specialist support from the Bishop Burton team, which including a rider fitness coach.
  • Discounted Therapy sessions are available for horses in the Equine Therapy Centre
  • Option to join the Bishop Burton Riding Club.

Applications

Applications to join the academy for September 2019 must be in by August 2019. Please note that places are limited and eligible applicants will be dealt with on a first come first served basis.

To request selection into the academy send a covering letter detailing your competition aspirations to Equine Academy, Bishop Burton College.

Please ensure you enclose all of the following documents and send them to equine@bishopburton.ac.uk:

  • Up-to-date competitive CV including competition record.
  • DVD / video link of you competing in a recent (within last six months) Affiliated Competition.
  • Reference from your current trainer / coach.
