Bishop Burton Arenas

Bishop Burton Arena

Built to the highest standards, the £3million Bishop Burton Arena was opened in October 2008 by HRH Princess Anne and is the College’s largest single building.

Measuring 5060m2, the arena has a working surface of 65m x 35m, which benefits from the latest dust-free wax/sand surface that is suitable for all disciplines.

Designed to hold competitions and events as well as lectures and practical demonstrations, the arena also houses five classrooms, permanent seating for 500 with capacity to increase to over 1000, commentary boxes and PA system, therapy and demonstration rooms with viewing galleries and VIP hospitality areas. The building also complies with current Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) regulations.

This versatile facility can be used for conventions, conferences and lecture demonstrations as well as top-class competitions.

Recent events include the British Dressage Northern Winter Regionals, British Showjumping Development Classic, British Showjumping Bronze and Silver league qualifiers for the Horse of the Year Show. CPD for The British Equine Veterinary Association and Rider Development Pathway training  for The Pony Club.

The arena is versatile and is also ideal for non-equine events. For instance, it hosts an annual AGRII Farming Exhibition, which sees it filled with the latest farming machinery and technology, and our Rugby Academy have used the arena for training on very frosty days in the winter.

Championship and International Arenas

Large crowds supporting the action in the Arena

Measuring 50m x 90m, the International Arena adds to the already impressive equine facilities at the College. The arena was premiered for Show Jumping during the FEI European Pony Championships, which was hosted by the College in July 2010.

The Championship arena, opposite the Bishop Burton Arena measures, 72m x 55m. Both surfaces are complemented by Cherry Park Arena, a smaller surface that can be used for schooling or warming up.

Two further indoor schools are also available. Indoor 1 (60m x 20m) was completely revamped in 2014 and boasts a waxed surface and bright and welcoming ambience matching Indoor 2 (65m x 30m). All surfaces are maintained to the highest standard to ensure perfect riding for students and commercial users.
