Animal Management and Veterinary

Bishop Burton College has the most extensive Animal Management Unit in the region, with more than 100 species.

These species include alpacas, wallabies, meerkats, otters, primates and a huge array of companion animals and exotics.Our expert tutors also ensure there is no better place to learn your trade.

Studies are also enhanced by numerous guest speakers, day and residential trips; including zoos, kennels and catteries, as well as our annual Employer Engagement and Student Progression Event.

Animal Management Facilities

Our state of the art animal facilities include a purpose-built reptile house, aviaries and small animal rooms to name a few, in addition to a brand new animal management building where our purpose-built licensed commercial boarding kennels and a grooming parlour is sited.

Other facilities include an isolation suite for trial work and research as well as a higher education project room. The animal collection, houses our companion animals, aquaria and exotic species. The new outdoor facility houses meerkats, Asian short clawed otters, wallabies, rhea, primates and exotic hoof stock.

Our students benefit from our working relationships with industry representatives facilitating employer engagement and student progression events in addition to developing external work experience with such groups as; the RSPCA, Dog Care Trust, Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Burgess, Hearing Dogs and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), and many more.
