Animal Management

City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate of Technical Competence: Dog Walking

You will gain the practical skills and knowledge that are important for working as a competent dog walker. You could also progress to further learning and training in this area.

This course runs over a weekend, with sessions from 9am - 4.30pm each day.

Two days

£300

Residential option including a one night stay is available for £350.

City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate of Technical Competence: Pet Sitting

You will gain the practical skills and knowledge that are important for working as a pet sitter. Pet sitting can involve looking after a wide range of animals to include cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs, through exotics, pet pigs, chickens, sheep or goats, for example. You could also progress to further learning and training in this area.

This course runs over a weekend, with sessions from 9am - 5.30pm each day.

Please note that to complete this course, you must have completed the Dog Walking qualification or a relevant Level 2 qualification first.

Two days

£300

Residential option including a one night stay is available for £350.

Animal Handling / Feeding Experiences

These sessions will cover:

  • Handling of reptiles and small animals
  • Meeting and greeting our larger animals, such as our meerkats and skunks
  • Feeding experiences, which include developing enrichment activities for the animals.

These experiences are available on selected Saturdays. They take place 10am - 1pm or 2pm - 5pm.

You must be aged eight or over to participate. If you are under 16, you must be accompanied by an adult. If the adult wishes to participate in the activities, they must also sign up for the session.

First Steps in Floristry

This is a new and exciting ‘hands on’ introduction to Floristry. This course is designed to cover basic elements in floristry whilst encouraging and developing your own unique style. This course is suitable for either the beginner who wants to learn basic floristry techniques or alternatively, students with existing experience wanting to refresh their skills.

First Steps in Design An introduction to basic design, including designing kitchens, bathrooms and living rooms.  You will gain an understanding of basic interior design skills, including hand drawn scale plans and elevations, colour theory and the application of pattern and texture, fabric and finishes via the production of finished mood boards. CACHE NCFE L1 Award in Mental Health Awareness This qualification aims to raise awareness of the issues surrounding mental health difficulties, dispel some of the myths and misconceptions frequently linked to mental health issues, and develop learner’s knowledge of the rights of those with mental health issues. English and Maths

GCSE English

This course is ideal for those never having achieved a GCSE English qualification, or those trying to improve on a previously awarded grade.

The course, which includes the study of spoken language and the study of a novel, will also provide you with the opportunity to produce your own pieces of creative writing and help you develop your skills in writing for specific purposes.

This course runs on Wednesday evenings.

GCSE Maths

Math skills are essential for gaining employment or going onto higher education. More and more employers are asking for these qualifications at a Grade C or above. Therefore we have designed our courses to ensure you can further develop these skills in a practical and useful way.

This course runs on Tuesday evenings.

One year, one evening per week. Free Sept 2018 - May 2019
Functional Skills in English, from Level 1 to Level 2

This course is aimed at adults, over 19 years of age, seeking to improve their English skills and to gain a nationally recognised qualification up to Level 2 that will assist with job prospects, entry requirements for higher level courses and everyday skills for life.

This course runs on Wednesday evenings.

BHS Stage 1 Preparation Course

This course is designed to cover the syllabus of the BHS Stage 1 and prepare candidates for the assessment. Further reading around the subject and practice of the practical skills may be necessary.

This course runs on selected Monday evenings, 5.30pm - 7.45pm. Students should arrive at 5.15pm to tack up.

This is a short preparation course for candidates that have experience from coaching and need assessment practice.

Equine Clipping This session will cover:
  • Reasons for clipping and types of clips
  • Equipment required and health and safety considerations
  • Practicing clipping and dealing with a range of horses.

This course runs on selected evenings. 5.30pm - 7.30pm.

Equine First Aid This session will cover:
  • First aid for horses
  • When to call the vet and what to do until the vet arrives
  • What to do in an emergency
  • First aid cabinet.

This course takes place on selected evenings, 5.30pm - 8.30pm.

Equine Show Preparation

This session will cover:

  • Pulling and trimming
  • Plaiting
  • Grooming, washing and finishing touches.

This qualification is aimed at the learner who wants to pursue a career in the health and fitness industry as a fitness instructor in the context of gym-based exercise.

The aim of this qualification is to provide those learners who already possess a valid fitness instructor qualification with the additional knowledge; understanding and skills required to plan and instruct group circuit training sessions.
