Farm and Grazing Voluntary Trainee

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Appleton Mill Farm, North Yorkshire

Working Week: 3 days per week

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is developing its Living Landscapes vision at two farms in North Yorkshire and we would like to recruit a Farm and Grazing Voluntary Trainee to help with the varied tasks. Appleton Mill Farm is an established 230 acre beef and arable farm with 100 acres of woodland that holds many ancient woodland indicator flora such as bluebells, wild primrose and wood sorrel. Low Carr Farm is a 100 acre grassland farm where most of lambing takes place for our Hebridean sheep. Part of the role will assist the Grazing Team to ensure the successful Conservation Grazing of over 30 Nature Reserves with cattle and sheep throughout the year. As a Farm and Grazing Voluntary Trainee you will assist in all aspects of farm conservation and management at both sites and play a key role in the conservation grazing plan.

North Cave Wetlands Reserve Voluntary Trainee

Working Week: 2-3 days a week (flexible – detail to be discussed with successful applicant)

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust manages over 100 nature reserves, restoring biodiversity, protecting habitats and wildlife and providing wonderful opportunities for visitors to get close up and see some of our most enthralling wildlife. Putting nature back where it belongs and protecting it for the future takes time and effort and our reserves staff need the help and support of a team of dedicated volunteers to make it happen. The role will help with both practical and administrative tasks across three YWT reserves, with the main part of the role particularly focused on North Cave Wetlands reserve, west of Hull. Two additional sites at Northcliffe wood and Saltmarshe Delph are also included in the role to cover additional habitats.

Wolds and Holderness Wetlands Trainee

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, York

Working Week: 2-3 days a week (flexible – detail to be discussed with successful applicant)

The Wolds & Holderness Wetlands Trainee will support the delivery of the Wolds Water Dew Ponds Project & the R Hull Living Landscape programme. The voluntary trainee will gain a wide range of experience in pond, river & wetland restoration techniques, mapping, research, species and habitat surveying as well as planning and delivering a wide variety of events including workshops, educational activities and practical volunteer workdays.
