Bishop Burton College is one of the leading specialist colleges in the country. It is a diverse organisation delivering further and higher education programmes in our specialisms of land based and sport. The College also generates significant income through its various enterprises. We work with a number of industry partners to provide enhancement to our academic courses.
As a member of the Board, you will share responsibility for setting the educational character and mission of the College and ensuring it meets its strategic objectives. The Board also agrees annual budgets, is accountable for the use of public funds and must ensure the College’s long term financial sustainability.
Candidates should possess strong business skills, the ability to think strategically and an entrepreneurial outlook. We are looking for someone with the knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to contribute effectively. An interest in education, training and skills would be beneficial, as would an understanding of the region and the industries the College serves.
To maintain a balance of relevant skills on the Board, applications would be especially welcome from those with a background in finance, financial services or accountancy.
This is a highly rewarding voluntary role which makes a significant contribution to young people’s futures. Governors are expected to attend Board meetings (held in the evening on 9 occasions throughout the year), as well as training and an annual planning session. Additional time will be needed to read and prepare for meetings. Governors are also encouraged to take a wider interest in the life of the College through attendance at events such as exhibitions, shows and achievement celebrations. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed for attendance at meetings.
