Dunbia :: Bishop Burton College

The College is working alongside experts from Dunbia on a research project looking at how to improve the profitability and efficiency of lambing.

The three to five-year project will look at ways to maximise the lambing performance of the College flock. Students are given first-hand experience of the live to dead cycle and play an integral role in developing profitable breeding practices.

Forming the nucleus of the initial Pedigree Hereford breeding programme stock, the six heifers and bull embarked upon an ambitious breeding programme that offered students first-hand experience of the breeding process of pedigree cattle.

As well as offering a range of new teaching practices, the herd also provide home-reared British beef for the College’s commercial partnership with Dunbia, which supplies retailers including ASDA, Sainsbury’s and the Co-operative.
