Students will also benefit from the College’s newly-opened Centre for Sport and Exercise Science which offers facilities for the physiological testing of athletes, and provision of therapy and rehabilitation with the latest equipment.

Deputy Principal Rachel Ellis-Jones said,

“This is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience as well as theory to gain a real understanding of sporting injuries, their causes and their treatment, to graduate as qualified sports therapists with in-depth experience of the field.

“We are delighted to have gained accreditation from The Society of Sports Therapists which means that the programme meets industry defined competencies for a graduate therapist, ensuring that students leave eligible and qualified to practise.”

Professor Graham N. Smith, Chair of The Society of Sports Therapists said:

“The Society of Sports Therapists is excited to be working with the University Centre Bishop Burton and welcomes it into its academic family. With the excellent facilities available and the elite sporting academies within the Centre, students will undoubtedly receive an appropriate and relevant education in sport and exercise therapy and rehabilitation. As the programme is also validated by the University of Lincoln, we know that our partnership and collaboration can only go from strength to strength.”

Modules studied by students on the course focus on the underpinning anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and therapeutic principles. In addition to these studies, students will gain practice-based experience through clinics, pitch-side first aid and work placements.
