Junior Fertiliser Trader for ADM Agriculture

As well as providing an integrated supply chain to ADM’s UK assets in milling and oil seed crushing, We supply a full range of non-grain feed ingredients to the feed and fuel markets, alongside a comprehensive range of seed and fertilisers.

Job Purpose
The Trainee Fertiliser Trader is to learn to build commercial relationships to trade with suppliers, and price fertiliser products for internal stakeholders.

To meet the profit objectives set by the company and follow instructions as set out by the Head of Fertiliser whilst being responsible for the following.

Your Responsibilities

  • To generate opportunities and margin within fertiliser retail and wholesale sectors working with the business specialists.
  • Effectively interpret market information in order to determine market sentiment. To provide the Head of Fertiliser and colleagues with information about the daily market, detailing trades in the day.
  • To be part of the development of business opportunities.
  • To attend and assist in supplier strategy meetings with fertiliser team members when required.
  • To communicate both UK and global market trends to fertiliser customers and the farm trading teams.
  • Manage and develop business with your own customer base working within trading standards set by the Head of Fertiliser.
  • To be part of and in due course hold regular meetings both online and face to face
  • Work with the fertiliser logistics and trading support to allow the smooth execution of all retail and wholesale fertiliser business.
  • To represent the business at corporate events/shows.
  • To deal promptly and efficiently in a customer service capacity.
  • Build relationships with key strategic trading partners.
  • Overriding responsibility to meet the objectives set by the company and follow instructions set out by the Head of Fertiliser.


Core hours of work: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to utilise these to make correct and profitable trading decisions.
  • To fully understand the contractual obligations and contracts that govern the markets that are being traded.
  • To be BASIS/FACTS qualified, or have a strong desire to attain these within 24 months of commencing the role (supported by the company).
  • Experienced in the use of Microsoft IT software – Outlook, Word, Excel and utilising skills into using bespoke systems.
  • To work to tight deadlines.
  • To work effectively as a team member and on own initiative.
  • Driven and enthusiastic about forging a successful career
  • Demonstrates excellent level of commerical awareness
  • Ability to engage and influence others
  • High level of learning agility
  • Ability to interact and build relationships effectively, both internally and externally
