Most students have to live on a very tight budget - it isn’t easy. Learner Services staff are always on hand to give information and advice on financial issues including:

FE Support Funds
For Full Time Learners

1.  The Bursary -avaliable to 16-19yrs students only

This £1,200 bursary will be paid in £30 weekly instalments to the most vulnerable students in the following groups:
• In care or been in care for more than 13 weeks since the age of 14
• Student in receipt of Income Support
• Student in receipt of BOTH Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance
Students will receive weekly payments by BACS subject to 100% present attendance.


2.  The Bishop Burton Maintenance Allowance (BbMA)

This award will be paid in three £100 instalments across the academic year subject to 95% present attendance and completion of academic expectations.
The eligibility criteria are as follows:
• Students with a household income of below £16,190.
• Students NOT in receipt of a Residential Bursary
• Students NOT receiving transitional EMA
• Students NOT eligible for The Bursary
Students must achieve 95% present attendance and completion of academic expectations to receive each £100 payment.  Payments will be made by BACS into the students's bank account.


3.  The General Hardship Fund

This fund will operate in a similar manner to the Learner Support Fund of before i.e. to be used towards course related costs such as equipment, fees, clothing etc.
 

Common Questions

How much does it cost to come to college?

Information on what it costs to come to college will be given to you at interview and again in your joining pack. This will identify any costs associated with each course. Further information is available by calling Learner Services.

I don't think I can afford to come to college, what can I do?

Speak to our Advice and Guidance Officers on Open Days or during office hours on the phone. They will be able to identify the specific financial support that is available according to your needs and circumstances.

What happens if I get into debt whilst at college?

We can help you with budgeting advice and discuss funds that are available at your interview and during your time with us.

Does the college offer any bursaries?

In the first year of a full-time Higher Education programme a material bursary of an electronic Netbook with Mobile Broadband will be available to students.* For those in financial hardship or difficulty, the college administers the Access to Learning Fund which can offer financial awards to eligible students. *Terms and conditions apply.

EMAs (Educational Maintenance Grant) and ALG (Adult Learning Grant) are national sums of money available to many Further Education students dependent on their individual circumstances.

Care to Learn

If you are 16 years or over but under 19 years when you start your course and have a child you are entitled to up to £160.00per week for childcare and any necessary travel costs. The fund is paid directly to your childcare provider and to the course provider so that they can fund your travel. Financial Advice

Financial advice is available for students to help with managing budgets and also to pursue any financial support for which they may be eligible.
