The Bishop Burton Bursary Programme (BBBP) will offer financial support a number of students from households with an income of less than £25,000 in year one of study. Additional widening participation criteria will be used to prioritise awards which will include consideration of internal progression, postcode deprivation areas and disability. These awards are of £500 per full-time equivalent (FTE) and will be given in the form of three equal payments across the year, subject to achievement of attendance targets and submission of work.
An additional number of bursaries of £500 will be offered to students from under-represented groups who need financial support or those who have a household income between £25,001 and £45,875.
Aimed at supporting low income, high deprivation or students with disabilities to complete additional qualifications or to engage in industry-specific development which will support their future career. There will be a number of employability bursaries available in this academic year. Students can apply for this bursary to support their employability ambitions and enhance their CVs. The award is up to a maximum of £300 per application.
This discretionary fund is specifically aimed at assisting Higher Education students that are in financial hardship or difficulty to:
- Meet specific course and living costs which are not already met from other sources
- Provide emergency payments for unexpected financial crisis
- Intervene in cases where a student may be considering giving up their course because of financial problems.
The Student Opportunity Fund awards are conditional to the students' expenditure being higher than their income.
HE Financial Support Application Form
Applications will only be considered from enrolled students. To be considered, all students must follow the college procedure which includes the completion and submission of a Student Financial Awards application form via Pay My Student with supporting documents, such as student finance awards notice, 3 months bank statements and other evidence were applicable. This will be followed by a short advisory interview.
Please note all bursary funds are limited and any bursaries applications and hardship funding may be closed before the end of the academic year once the allocations have been made.
For applications to be considered, all students must follow the college procedure which includes the completion and submission of a Student Financial Awards application form as well as any required supporting documents. Applications can be accessed via our PayMyStudent Portal. Alternatively, you can download a paper copy of our application form which can be found below. This can be returned as a digital copy to bursaries@bishopburton.ac.uk OR as a paper copy to Student Services. The successful completion of the application form will be followed by and advisory questionnaire to ascertain your requirements.

Childcare Grants may be available through Student Finance England for Higher Education students with dependant children in registered or accredited childcare. It cannot be claimed for if a student is already claiming the childcare element of the Working Tax Credit from the HMRC.
The Student Opportunity Fund may be able to offer help with childcare costs for those who have a shortfall in their Childcare Grant. Please contact Student Services regarding eligibility and how to apply by calling 01964 553114 or emailing bursaries@bishopburton.ac.uk.
If you are a full-time student with dependent children, you may be entitled to help from the Parents' Learning Allowance through Student Finance England. This extra finance (along with the Childcare Grant) can help pay for childcare and other costs related to your course.
You may be entitled receive between £50 and £1,766 per year for course-related costs, which is paid in three instalments and can again be applied for through Student Finance England.
