Further Education Support Funds
The College offers various support funds for our students as follows:
The Bursary
The Bursary – For 16-19 FE Learners Only
The Bursary is a £1,200 bursary awarded to the most vulnerable students aged 16-19 in the following categories:
- Students that have been in the local authority care system for 13 weeks or more since the age of 14.
- Students in receipt of Income Support.
- Students in receipt of BOTH Employment Support Allowance (ESA) AND Disability Living Allowance (DLA).
This Bursary will be paid in £30 weekly installments based on 100% present attendance.
Bishop Burton Maintenance Allowance
The Bishop Burton Maintenance Allowance is a source of financial support for those FE students from low income families with a household income of less than £16,190.
Those students that are not in receipt of a residential bursary, not in receipt of the Bursary above or transitional EMA or ALG may be eligible for a £300 award from this fund.
The College distributes this funding to eligible students following a means-tested application process. This process will identify those students in greatest financial need.
For successful applicants, funds will only be released to those that have successful attendance, show commitment to their course and therefore need all the help they can get to stay on that course if money becomes of concern.
Payments will be in three £100 installments across the academic year paid directly into the student’s bank account by BACS.
General Hardship Fund
For those students that have additional financial needs, can demonstrate financial hardship and have accessed all other sources of support, the General Hardship Fund may be able to assist with course related costs and in emergency circumstances where money may be an issue.
20+ Childcare Fund
If you are over the age of 20 and have dependent children attending approved or registered childcare whilst you attend College, you may be eligible to receive funding towards these costs.
Education Maintenance Allowance
If you are aged 16-18 and began receiving EMA in academic years 2009/2011 or 2010/2011 you may still be eligible to receive weekly payments upon successful 100% attendance at your classes.
Learners that began receiving EMA in 2009/2010
You will continue to receive weekly payments at the same level of £ 10, £20 or £30 per week as you have previously.
Learners that began receiving EMA in 2010/2011
If you received £30 per week previously, you will continue to receive weekly payments at a reduced rate of £20 per week.
Adult Learning Grant (ALG)
If you are over the age of 19, have previously received ALG in 2010/2011 and are continuing on the same programme of study you will continue to receive ALG in 2011/2012.
