Scholarship Programme

The College is proud of its high quality reputation in delivering academic excellence.

With a large sports redevelopment programme now completed, the College is looking to extend the scope and quality of its sporting provision.

As part of a developing relationship with Hull RUFC and Premiership Champions Leicester Tigers, the College is now able to offer rugby scholarships to candidates of outstanding sporting ability, who show evidence of achievement or potential at regional and/or national level.

Potential scholars must be enrolled on any of the Higher Education Courses offered by the College for the year 2012/2013. Entry criteria is available on request.

The Scholarship scheme aims to:

  • Recruit talented athletes to study at Bishop Burton College
  • Retain and develop talented rugby players in the East Riding area
  • Provide athletes with the best possible environment to achieve their academic and sporting goals.

The following are available to every scholar accepted onto the programme:

  • Bursaries to cover accommodation and tuition fees*
  • First-class fitness conditioning facilities
  • Exceptional rugby training facilities
  • Professional coaching
  • Sports Science Support
  • Subsidised physiotherapy support
  • Individual mentoring
  • Centre for Sport and Fitness Membership
  • Training Kit
  • Media promotion of achievements
  • Athlete-friendly accommodation adjacent to Centre for Sport and Fitness.

Leicester Tigers

Sports provision at Bishop Burton College is set to benefit from a new alliance between the College and Rugby union premiership champions Leicester Tigers.

The partnership will see the team host residential rugby courses at the College for talented young players and lend their support to the Colleges prestigious Rugby Academy.

Academy scholars will have access to premiership-level coaches, physiotherapists and players to improve the quality of their game and make them more attractive to professional teams once they have completed their studies.

Hull RUFC

The College's partnership with Hull RUFC provides coaching and sports development advice to the Academy scholars. Scholars are also required to register and play for Hull RUFC as part of the Academy.

The club’s Director of Sport, Head Coach and Captain work closely with all of the scholars during regular training sessions to make sure they consistently meet the high standards set by the College and the club.
