Student Success in Horse Trials

Talented student Mollie Mills, from Grimsby, was placed 2nd in the British Eventing 100, held at the Bishop Burton College at the end of September.

Mollie, 16, who is studying for her Intermediate Apprenticeship in Horse Care, competed against 35 hopefuls in her class to be placed runner up in the competition, with the help of her horse, First Post.

She said, “I was very close to claiming the top spot but I let myself down in the cross country.

“I’m competing again on Friday at Norton Disney, so I now know what I need to do to win.”

Competitors attend BE 100 events from across the country and have to show their skills in three disciplines – show jumping, dressage and cross-country.

Mollie is already planning for next season, after poor weather caused many events to be cancelled this year.

She aims to gain more experience at BE 100 trials before taking part in her first One Star event at Osberton next year.

Alongside her competing and her course, she also has a placement at Cottage’s Plot Equestrian Centre, Grimsby.

She said, “I’m gaining great experience on my course and on my work placement, which are going to be really useful in my future career.

“I’d hope to set up my own business, running my own competition yard.”
