Laboratories




The Peter Fox Science Centre was opened in January 2003 and significantly extended in June 2008. The laboratories provide an essential and dynamic service and are equipped with the latest facilities and equipment to include:

Five teaching laboratories holding 12 - 48 students.

State-of-the-art I.T. facilities including digital imaging through microscopes, 16 laptop computers, 16 palm computers and 10 digital cameras for student use.

Specialist microscopy room includes phase contrast, fluorescence and inverted microscopes.

Specialist nutritional analysis laboratory - including bomb calorimeter, kjeldahl protein analyser, fat extraction equipment, fibrebag systems and moisture analysis.

Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer to analyse trace elements.

ELISA plate reader, PCR and electrophoresis equipment for protein analysis and DNA fingerprinting.

Class 2 safety cabinet plus API Bacterial identification system.

Microbiology/tissue culture clean room.

Forensic science equipment to allow collection of fingerprints, hair, blood, tool marks, bones and DNA analysis.

Spirometers, blood pressure meters and pulse oximeters to assess fitness.
