Bishop Burton College launches pioneering Centre for Agricultural Innovation

Rural and allied businesses in the Yorkshire region and beyond are set to benefit from cutting-edge research and a pool of industry expertise which will prepare them for the issues posed by climate change, population growth and increasing government legislation, following the launch of the Bishop Burton Centre for Agricultural Innovation which took place today at the Great Yorkshire Show.
The Centre, which was the brainchild of College principal Jeanette Dawson, has been established to draw together all strands of land-based research currently carried out by staff and students at the College as Mrs Dawson explains:
Positive approach to Nitrate Vulnerable Zones earns students prestigious Bursary

A group of enterprising agriculture students from Bishop Burton College have earned a sought-after bursary from the Environment Agency after completing a project based on Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZs).
The students, who have all just completed a Foundation Degree in Agriculture, were asked by the Environment Agency to speak to farmers living in designated areas about how farms can be managed to comply with legislation.

The pioneering partnership between Bishop Burton College and South Hunsley School will see its first cohort of students complete their courses this month and the occasion has been marked by both parties naming their inaugural Student of the Year.
UK’s only College stockmanship competition a success

Agriculture and equine students at Bishop Burton College demonstrated their showing skills this weekend at the College’s annual stockmanship competition.
The event is currently the only College stockmanship competition in the UK and the purpose is to provide students with an insight into the preparation, handling and showing of stock.
Bishop Burton College learners take gold at Army competition day

A group of sport and public services students from Bishop Burton College are celebrating after bringing home gold medals from an inter-college competition day organised by the army.
The event was held at Strensall Barracks near York and was designed to show learners from a number of colleges around the region what they could expect should they choose to join the army.
Agriculture Apprentice scoops top Education prize

An agriculture apprentice from Bishop Burton College is celebrating after scooping a top award from vocational qualification body City & Guilds.
Ashley Hellewell (21) of North Lincolnshire completed his advanced apprenticeship in agriculture last year and has been awarded a prestigious Medal for Excellence from City & Guilds in recognition of his hard work and dedication.
