Animal lover Natalie lands dream job

Animal lover Natalie Everett (17) of Brewster Avenue in Immingham has landed a dream job before the end of her college course after writing to surgeries across the area in the hope of finding a position as a trainee veterinary nurse.
Natalie now attends Bishop Burton College one day a week and during the rest of the week works as a trainee veterinary nurse at Vets4Pets in Grimsby.
Natalie, who attended Oasis Academy, is coming to the end of a National Diploma in Animal Management at Bishop Burton and decided to start the hunt for a job at the end of last year.
She said: “I have always wanted to be a veterinary nurse and I know that positions for trainees are always hard to find, so I thought I’d start looking early in the hope that by the time my course finished I might have something.
“I sent out lots of letters last November and just after Christmas Vets4Pets got in touch saying they had a vacancy and would I like to attend an interview.
“I tried not to get too excited, but the interview went well and I started work in April.”
Suzanne Buckley, who runs the Grimsby Vets4Pets practise, was impressed with Natalie’s focus and determination.
She said: “In her initial letter Natalie presented herself really well. She was very mature and had a clear idea of where she wanted to go.
“The fact that she had done regular work experience with the Blue Cross, and that they were very supportive of Natalie when I contacted them for a reference, spoke volumes to me.
“Also Natalie is very academically focussed, and not only that she’s a nice person and is very kind – to the animals and their owners.
“Obviously this is very steep learning curve and she’s got a lot to take on board, but Natalie’s coping very well and is a pleasure to have around.”
Once she has completed the National Diploma, Natalie will begin her two-year training at Bottle Green Training in Derbyshire, while working at Vets4Pets.
Natalie’s course manager Elaine Cowling is delighted with this latest development in her career.
She said: “Natalie is a great demonstration of the college values of a 'can do attitude' in pursuing her career goal as a trainee veterinary nurse at the same time as completing her National Diploma.”
