The programme

This two year programme is equivalent to three A Levels. It is designed to serve the needs of the companion, commercial, welfare and collection sides of the animal management industry.

The programme provides training in technical skills along with the associated business and organisational skills so vital in today's world.

The course is designed to give you a broad base of experience to prepare you for work in the industry or for progression to a higher level course.

Learners follow a programme of lectures and practical duties within the department, which combined with work experience placements, provide the opportunities to really develop those vital work skills. There is also the opportunity to gain additional qualifications in closely related areas during the course.

People who take this course could go on to..

Study higher education qualifications in a related field such as Animal Management, Science, Behaviour & Training or Veterinary Nursing. Alternatively students could follow careers and training within the industry as animal wardens, dog trainers, groomers, pet shops, animal collections/zoos, research establishments or within welfare organisations such as the RSPCA, PDSH, Guide Dogs or Hearing Dogs.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grades A-C OR A relevant BTEC First Diploma or equivalent OR Practical experience working at the appropriate level in the animal management industry OR “Life experience” will also be taken into account when considering applications from mature students. In addition two satisfactory references are required.

2 years full-time
