BTEC First Diploma in Animal Care
The programme
The content of this programme is aimed at the study of companion and exotic animals. A large part of the programme involves working in the College’s animal unit and boarding kennels. Learning new skills through doing is a major part of this course, as is learning the theory to back up these new skills.

Special Features
This programme includes industrial experience working within the animal management industry. There may be opportunity to gain additional qualifications.
People who take this course could go on to..
Follow careers working in kennels, catteries, pet shops, veterinary surgeries, grooming parlours, working for charities such as Guide Dogs for the Blind, Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Peoples Dispensary for Sick Animals, zoos and safari parks. Some students could progress to further College programmes such as the National Diploma in Animal Management.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grade D OR Level 1 qualification in a related subject OR “Life experience” will also be taken into account when considering applications from mature students. In addition two satisfactory references are required.
