The programme

This is a very practical programme, a large part of which is spent working on farms to gain the practical skills required. The programme has also been designed to improve students’ numeracy and literacy skills to encourage personal development, in particular with regard to basic problem solving.

  • Assist with Preparing and Maintaining Livestock
  • Assist with Seed-Bed Preparation and Planting of Crops
  • Health and Safety
  • Hygiene Practices
  • Tractor Operations

Special Features

This is an introductory level course that is designed to allow you to develop your confidence and skills through working in Agriculture, whilst studying for an NVQ level 1 in Agriculture.

People who take this course could go on to..

Work within the Agriculture industry on Arable, Dairy or Livestock Enterprises.

Some learners have also moved on to further college programmes.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, though an interest for the subject is essential. Students must demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment at interview. You will also be required to satisfactorily complete an initial assessment. In addition two satisfactory references are required.
