NVQ Level 1 in Horse Care
The programme
This is a practical programme, with an emphasis on working with horses to allow people to gain the practical skills required.
During the course learners will be given the opportunity to develop both their independence and their confidence whilst working with horses.

Special Features
A strong emphasis is placed on the development of basic, personal and social skills to preparing you for further study or employment. A popular aspect of this course is the programme of visits to various yards across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, including riding on the beach and attending York Horse Sales on of their popular monthly sale days.
Students ride up to three times a week.
You will be given the opportunity of studying for the BHS (British Horse Society) Progressive Riding Tests.
People who take this course could go on to..
Continue their studies at BTEC First Diploma or NVQ Level 2 Apprenticeship in Horse Care.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however you must show an enthusiasm and commitment to the subject at interview, demonstrate a basic practical ability and provide acceptable references. A basic ability to ride is essential for those students wishing to take the optional riding unit.
