Mammal Identification: Techniques for Beginners.
The Programme
This beginners course is designed to provide individuals with skills to further their ability to identify and understand UK mammal species and their conservation requirements.
The course is aimed at those with a general interest or those starting their careers in ecological surveying to those who just want to know more about the different mammals that can be found in the UK.
What You Study
- The different species found in the UK (both native and introduced)
- Identification points and ecology of UK mammal species (using skulls, frozen specimens and owl pellet analysis)
- Surveying for mammals using field signs
- Live surveying and in-hand identification of small mammals species
- Legislation applying to mammal species in the UK

- Handling of species (live and frozen) for close-up identification knowledge
- A fully qualified tutor in mammal identification, ecology and surveying
- Hands on practical sessions throughout the course
