The Programme

On this course you will explore the full potential of your compact camera, gaining new perspectives and a sound understanding of photography ideas and concepts.

You will learn key compositional ideas, explore your camera’s potential, learn basic editing techniques and investigate areas of personal interest. This course will help you to develop your skills in order to make the right creative choices.

  • Basic camera functions
  • Getting to know your settings
  • Using a tripod
  • Improving your composition
  • Colour composition
  • Brief introduction to lighting
  • Still life photography
  • Portrait photography- tips for improving
  • Landscape/ nature photography – using the college grounds i.e. walled garden
  • Basic photo editing – using a free program, how to store images /cropping/change to black and white / red eye

Entry Requirements

  • Basic or no prior knowledge of photography
  • Must have your own compact ‘point and shoot’ camera (this is not a D-SLR course!)
